Frost Fairy Festivities. by Ransom Thibodeaux.

There’s always a holiday to celebrate in Glimmer Falls1 The frost fairies are pleased to offer their annual winter market in the town square from January fifth through thirteenth. Come for steaming apple cider and traditional spun-sugar delicacies, then stay for the ice-sculpting competition and a performance by the Centaur Irish Dance Squad. There’s even a magic-powered Ferris wheel!

For hot-blooded creatures, never fear - Mayor Cynthia Cunnington has commissioned a winged sauna that will hover over the proceedings, allowing everyone to enjoy the spectacle.

Admission is free, though the frost fairies appreciate donations to maintain their ice manor year-round.

Winter Wonderwoods. by Artemis Crumpet.

Even in the cold of winter, the forest is brimming with life. Take a walk on one of countless trails, and you can see snow rabbits and frost flowers. Settle in for a soak at one of Glimmer Falls’s famous hot springs, though don’t be surprised if an albino hot springs snake decides to cuddle up with you. They’re very friendly!

Please be cautious around the fire salamanders. Not only are they extremely endangered, but they’re also extremely cranky, and no one likes an accidental burn. Well, some of you do, but that’s a story for another time.

Speaking of burning, don’t hold out hope for seeing a phoenix. By this time of year, they’ll all have self-immolated for the winter. Check back in spring!

Ask Sphinxie.

Dear Sphinxie,

My parents think a pixie can only love another airborne creature, but I’ve fallen for a tragically earthbound wood nymph. How can we convince them to give our love a chance?

-Hopeless Earth-Air Romantic Twosome

Dear HEART,

To love is to grow wings and roots. Such growth cannot happen in darkness. Bring it into the light, and let it thrive.
